Ingredients
Method
- Warm the milk to 110°F, then stir in the yeast and a tablespoon of the sugar. Let sit for 8 minutes, until foamy.
- Whisk the egg into the yeast mixture. Add melted butter, remaining sugar, and salt, then stir in the flour a cup at a time.
- Turn the dough onto a floured counter and knead for 7 minutes by hand, or 5 minutes in a stand mixer, until smooth.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about 60 minutes, until doubled.
- Punch down and divide into 15 pieces. Roll into balls and arrange in a buttered 9x13-inch pan.
- Cover loosely and let rise again for 35 minutes, until the rolls touch.
- Bake at 375°F for 16 to 18 minutes, until deep golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter, then whip the honey butter ingredients together and serve warm alongside.
Notes
This dough needs a full 60-minute first rise; rushing it leads to dense rolls. Let the honey butter ingredients sit at room temperature before mixing for the fluffiest result.
